Saugeen Rail Trail
Park at The Plex and gain entry onto the Rail Trail off Wellington Street across from the skate park. This trail connects Southampton and Port Elgin and is built on an old railway line that is used year-round. Strap on your skis or snowshoes and go! The total length of the trail is about 25 km. If you head north, it will take you along Highway 21 past open fields and covered forests to the heart of Port Elgin. The Port Elgin Library is an important landmark. It was renovated in 2009 to increase accessibility, but much of the original architecture remains.
