We would like to extend a warm welcome to you as a new or prospective new member of the Port Elgin Curling Club (PECC). As you probably know, curling is a rapidly growing sport in our local area of Saugeen Shores, but in the provincial, national and international forum as well. Curling is recognized as an excellent form of physical fitness, yet does not demand the exertion required by some other sports. As well, it is a social sport, on which allows you to meet new people with similar interests and hopefully to cultivate long-term relationships.

As a club member, you would join your fellow curlers as part owner of our local facility, for the PECC is membership owned. The members operate, maintain and govern the policies of this club. You would become a vital part of this non-profit organization and can be involved in its sustainability and future direction.
The PECC offers the following for your investment as a member of this organization.

You become part owner of the PECC and it's facility, since it is membership owned and operated.

You become a voting member of this club and play a vital part in its elections, operation, maintenance and sustainability. Your opinions and involvement are welcome. You can participate in all social events, can become a member of the board of directors where policy change is more easily affected, and can get involved or assist in any of the many areas, both functional and promotional, that have kept our club active.

There are four sheets of ice to play on - and these are maintained to meet top quality standards - with a viewing from the lounge. The lounge includes a bar and a boardroom for club operations and meetings. As well, a full kitchen is available for use in catering various events. Change rooms and washrooms are located downstairs.

You have options with respect to types of league and times/dates during which you can curl. The club offers unlimited curling, providing of course that you play during the times/days open to the particular league that you have chosen. The fees also vary, depending on the league(s) you choose.

Your name will be placed on a team list/schedule based on your league(s) of choice as indicated on your registration form. Your team skip will contact you, provide you with a schedule and inform you as to the date/time of your first game.

Mixed curling is more focused as a social event and is available at a reduced fee since you are limited to one evening of the week for curling. You may wish to be a full member enabling you to curl more games, while your spouse may choose to participate in mixed curling only. Friday night Mixed is a great opportunity for you and your spouse to spend an enjoyable evening curling and socializing with friends.

Throughout the curling season, the club offers a free curling clinic for new members and veteran members who would like a refresher course. This clinic will allow you to gain an understanding of the game rules and the trial run should help help you to feel comfortable on the ice.

The club will provide you with loaned brooms and sliders to use until such time as you feel comfortable with the game and decide to obtain your own personal equipment.

The entire club facility is designated as non-smoking, as decided by the club members. Hence, there is no smoking allowed inside the club. A smoking facility is located outside the building. This ensures you a healthy, smoke free environment.

Club lockers are available to you for a small fee, so that you may safely leave and store your equipment at the club.

The club maintains an operating bar during all scheduled times of curling. Costs at the bar are very reasonable, and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are available.

As a member, you get a 15% discount on curling equipment at our local sport's store Scoreboard Sport's.

Curling offers you a form of exercise which is both healthy and fun yet not overly strenuous.

You will meet new and interesting people and find a new peer group with which to enjoy good sport, great social interaction and relaxation.

You will have a vote and say in the current and future operations of the club. You can volunteer for any activity, which includes becoming a member of the Board of Directors.

As a member, you have access to the club during the curling season. If ice is available, you can come in to practice or bring in some friends to give them a feel for the game. You also get reduced lease rates if you wish to utilize the facility for family bonspiels or hall rentals. You can even just go up to the lounge and watch TV via our new satellite dish.

If you do not wish to curl, would like to retain your membership and ownership of the club, a social membership is also available for a small fee.

You can participate in any social events that are scheduled throughout the year. Club members organize these events.

After each game, you have the opportunity to socialize with both your team mates and the opposing team before heading home.

The skips as well as the members of the club are available to respond to any of your questions or concerns. There are also methods by which you may have your suggestions and/or concerns addressed by the Board of Directors to ensure that your experience at the club remains enjoyable.

A Junior program is available. Students up to 19 years of age and in high school. As well, a Novice program exists for children in grades 4 to 8.

As a member of the PECC, you become a member of Ontario Curling association (OCA) and the Canadian Curling Association (CCA). With this membership, you can participate in OCA curling events (Bonspiels and Competitions) for a very small fee of $15.00.

You will be given at no charge a membership curling pin/badge with your name engraved on it, that we would like you to wear when you are curling or at the club facility. Then, everyone will to get to know you much more quickly and easily.

The PECC Board of Directors will keep your informed as to all events, operations, etc. via the club's communication board or by occasionally issuing information packages. You are also encouraged to attend the two General Membership meetings that are held each year. This will give you an opportunity to : learn what your board of directors is doing; provide any input you may have concerning the topic at hand; express any concerns that you may have and suggest any improvements that you would like to see.

There are 2 registrations open house nights at the club each October prior to the start of the curling season. Ads will be placed on the local cable channel and the local paper. It will also be listed here on our website. Registration forms will be available during those evenings. Should you wish a registration form early, feel free to contact us.
